SELINSGROVE, PA – Dauntless Hook And Ladder Fire Company Lt Sean Christine and Engineer Colin Rice were headed around the area on Friday afternoon sharing some good cheer and inviting the community to help them throw a party. That’s right, Oktoberfest is coming to Selinsgrove!
The festivities are being modeled after the Bavarian volksfest that has been held annually since 1810. In 2013 more than 7.7million liters of beer were consumed over 16 days by over 6million attendees.
The Selinsgrove Oktoberfest will be held on the grounds of the Selinsgrove Speedway October 15th, 2016 from 11am until 4pm. Ticket prices haven’t been set just yet, but will be around $25. You will be able to purchase a ticket online and will also be available in-person through DH&L members.
Asked how many tickets will be available for sale, Lt Christine joked “Between one and two thousand. If you would like to come, there will likely be a ticket available for you.”
Engineer Rice noted that the business community has been very receptive so far. “We have commitments from Keller’s Beer, Marzoni’s Brick Oven & Brewing Company, the Selin’s Grove Brewing Co., and we have spoken to more.” Several businesses have already signed up as sponsors as well. “The Chief sponsor level gets your banner hung up around the racetrack for the entire summer. Every race from now through October” Rice added. Sponsors for the event can choose between three levels: Lieutenant($250), Captain($500), and Chief($1000).
The event is a fundraiser for the fire company which primarily serves the Selinsgrove region. Both training and equipment are expensive. In order to keep providing their members high quality training sessions, like an upcoming industrial accident course, and begin saving for a new ladder truck estimated at $1.5million DH&L must do several fundraising events each year.
Christine, who coordinated the well-attended Emergency Services Banquet while he served as Selinsgrove’s Mayor and previously directed the Market St Festival as well, said the DH&L members are ready to throw a party. “We are going to have a pig roast, plenty of great beers, and a fantastic facility to hold it. It is going to be a lot of fun!” Rice confirmed.
You can follow the DH&L facebook page for more information on when tickets will go on sale and an announcement will be published here. For more information on the event or to register as a sponsor you can call the firehouse at 570-374-0011.
